As of next month we are trialling a whole new Learn to Skate Course. This course will be specifically orientated around the skills and techniques you need to play ice hockey. There will be no sticks or pucks, just skates.
Some of our brilliant coaching staff who teach our Learn to Skate Courses have a whole bank of Ice Hockey experience and we want to unleash that upon you!
The courses is due to pilot on Thursday 18th February from 19:00 until 20:00, then run evey other week. There will be three 1hr sessions per course.
John Nike Leisuresport Complex is holding its 28th annual pantomime on ice, with this year’s being Cinderella. All the fun begins 9th December with a Charity Performance and continues until 13th December…that’s a grand total of seven shows, including a school’s performance on the Thursday. Cinderella is a classic fairy tale about a girl’s journey to find true love, in which a prince, finds a poor peasant girl and falls in love, but wait…there’s a twist! With an evil stepmother and two ugly step sisters who want nothing more than to see the beautiful Cinderella miserable, how will the two lovers find each other? You will only find out at John Nike Leisuresport Complex!
Each year the chairman, John Nike OBE DL, chooses a charity in which all proceeds from the Wednesday night performance go to. In turn, Mr Nike, donates a sum of his own money to take the total up to £5000. This year’s chosen charity is The Multiple Sclerosis Society, who help fight to improve treatment and care for people with MS, thereby enabling them to once again take control of their lives.
With the Pantomime week fast approaching, preparations are already underway with the first full rehearsal going incredibly well, each participant working extra hard to get their individual parts right. Staff, committee members and volunteers at the ice rink have been working day and night to ensure props, lighting, music and costumes are ready for the rehearsals. With a cast of eighty-six, including adults and children, a lot of work goes into each sector. Everybody was in high spirits for their second full dress rehearsal that took place on Sunday 29th November, in which everybody had to be in bright and early at 07:00am, including all crew, staff, performers and parents. By the end of the rehearsal everybody was confident and positive that this will be the best pantomime yet!
Head Coach, Stacey Bullock, along with the other coaches, put in countless amounts of hours into the pantomime to ensure all of the cast are happy and confident in their parts. But it is not only the coaches who work tirelessly to ensure that the pantomime runs to perfection, Bernadette Howard (Ice Rink Assistant Manager and Pantomime Manager), alongside her team and volunteers, create the props, promotional material, programme and many more essential items/tasks. Bernadette told us, “Work for the pantomime first began back in January and has progressed steadily since. Everyone puts all of their effort into making sure everything is ready and runs smoothly on the day. In the few weeks before panto, the atmosphere is so festive that everyone is already in the Christmas spirit early.” So if you want to do something extra festive and special this year, then come along to the John Nike Leisuresport Complex performance of Cinderella on Ice. Well what a busy weekend for Cinderella and her crew!
On Saturday Night Polo the Bear and Cinderella went to meet all the folk at Sandhurst for their annual Christmas Light Switch on! They were greeted by the most friendly of faces and even met Father Christmas and the Mayor. Here’s a few sneak peaks…
After the late night at Sandhurst Town Hall Cinders rushed in for an early start at the rink. With the last few dress rehearsals Cinderella is pushed to hard, not just from her ugly sisters, but our amazing coach team at Bracknell Ice Rink.
Just when she thought she could put her feet up, next stop was Wokingham Carnival. Polo and Cinderella set to work along with our rinkies. They set to work dressing up Cinder’s Golden Carriage, ready to parade through the town. We also had a special appearance from the ugly sisters and other cast members; not to forget John Nike himself!
Cinderella just hopes all her extremely hard efforts have paid off! Oh I know, buy your pantomime on ice tickets today…that way she’ll know. Call 01344789000 now!

We are ecstatic to announce how much our ice has transformed in just a few days. We couldn’t believe our eyes when our compressors were running lower than minus 9 degrees celsius!
Great news, before we had our ice issues we had planned to spice up our goal nets, they were completed today. Check out the transformation below:
Good news for all of you planning on coming down to this year’s Mojam – Revenge of the Tash, we should have our chairlift up and running by the 22nd! Some of our sponsors were revealed this week and there is still more to come. We will keep everyone posted!
WE HAVE FROZEN! The temperature keeps dropping and we could not be happier…
Today has been very successful, we have a wonderful work force behind us who put their upmost effort into their work. Our evening steward spent hours upon hours last night flooding the ice, letting it freeze and flooding again. This has increased our ice levels significantly, we will be continuing this routine ready for the hockey sessions to be resurrected. If you are wondering about whether your training session is going ahead or not you must speak to your coach.
“It’s a pretty amazing feeling, the ice is hard again. Once again, It’s really nice to have somewhere to teach and skate on properly” – Figure Skating Coach.
Today the boys have been hard at work packing the sides of the rink, check out the pictures below:
