Competing in their first club national, all 3 family members secured an impressive spot on the winners podium. Brothers James and Jonathan both took home silver  in the Under 14s and Under 16s; beating many  experienced national l racers.

Jason, the father of James and Jonathan, came 3rd place in the Masters category! Jason  is regularly instructing at JNL Bracknell. Every Friday he coaches the Berkshire Race Squad along side Brian Barfoot.

From all of us here we would love to send our biggest congratulations to you all! We are expecting the same, if not better, results next time. No pressure…

FIREWORKS

We are hosting our annual Free Fireworks this Sunday at 19:00, doors will open at 18:00 with a performance from Berkshire Race Squad. Now with that in mind many people have questioned the certainty of the John Nike Leisuresport Centre, in Bracknell, and whether or not if we are plotting to close our doors one last time.

Some of you may of heard about the complications of our ice, leading to last weekends Bracknell Bee’s Match being postponed and cancelled ice hockey training sessions. Along with the essential maintenance that has been carried out on our Chairlift for the last month. No one can blame you for the unsettled feeling there may be a closure to our centre. However, I must make this very clear that it will not be the case, below is a quick summary of the issues and maintenance that we have encountered the last week or so.

Chairlift – As part of our care and protection to our customers we have to service our chairlift, just like you would a M.O.T for a car. Within the time it was being serviced a few maintenance areas were brought to light, nothing too complicated or serious; some might say that it is just a simple, basic task which takes minutes; like filling you screen wash. Unlike most common cars a chairlift requires large and unusual parts, which typically have to be made from scratch or imported from abroad. Whilst we are waiting for the parts to be made it means the chair lift is out of action. We do have two drag lifts on the slopes, so don’t let this put you off visiting us. We are open as usual, if you would like more information please call 01344 789002.

Ice Pad – All Ice Pads are run off compressor plants which act as a huge refrigerator under the ice. Now normally you will have a few compressors that run simultaneous or together depending on the temperature of the current ice, ideally you want to see it at -7.5 to -8.5 Degrees Celsius. With our ice plant we have a fully working compressor which is simply lacking the support from the others. This means we are able to keep and maintain the ice we have as much as we can, in fact the ice is absolutely fine to skate on…if anything a little wet! Due to the wetness and a few thin patches of ice, the ice pad would not be suitable for an ice hockey match – for those who were wondering.

We do have plans to put in a temporary plant which will build the ice to where we can host ice hockey matches and our pantomime – Cinderella on Ice. The aim is to have the temporary plant up and running before the next scheduled Bracknell Bee’s Home Game.

As for the Ice Rink we are holding business as usual, open for all the members of public. Be sure to check our weekly timetable at http://www.jnlbracknell.co.uk, if there are to be any urgent updates, these too, will be post on our website.

Just when you come, try not to do a Harry Styles manoeuvre!

John Nike Leisuresport – Stars in their Eyes!

Here at John Nike Leisuresport we have a wide range of talent! Today we thought we would showcase just a snippet of those who are pushing their way to success.

Amongst who skate, ski and board at our centre we have some real talent breaking all barriers. You can come see for yourself what these individuals have to shout about at any of our Ski and Snowboard Freestyle competitions, Ice Skating competitions and not forgetting our annual pantomime which will amaze all who come to see the draw dropping Cinderella on Ice performance.

Jayin Pansear (aged 11) and Emily-Lucine Phillips (aged 11)10713005_10203785203058816_5761912934088112336_n

Jayin and Emily-Lucine are regular skaters at our centre, often with dark gloomy starts as early as 5am. This does not put them off their 15 hours of weekly ice training, as they frequently rush back from school to continue where they left off.10247250_10152722224496503_8253562223403336303_nThe dance team have been chosen to represent NISA and Great Britain at their first international competition ever!

This is what their coaches David Phillips and Lucine Phillips had to say:

“We wish the young pair every success as they step out on the international arena and forth coming British Championships in December. The youths are extremely hardworking, talented and are for sure a winning combination”.

Francis Howell

Francis is a senior lady who takes pride in skating for Great Britain. Earlier this year she brought a bronze medal back home from an international competition in Hungary, where she again had the honour to represent our nation.

Next month, in Romania, Francis has another amazing opportunity to show what she’s capable of! Skating for Great Britain at The Crystal Skate of Romania, she hopes for another triumph for her skating career.

Her coach Alex Verkovitch adds many hours to assure her success and never ending development.

12112469_10156142119945298_5961910150718718991_nJames Webb (aged 26)

Just recently James Webb, who is a British Slope style Gold Medallist, won Performance Coach of the Year. The award was kindly received from Snowsports England. Snowsports England made a point of showing appreciation to their 100+ coaches and instructors. We’re extremely happy for James who hosts Southern Freestyle club at our centre every Tuesday and Sunday.

If your wondering what all the fuss is about that surrounds James and his talent, you must come see for yourself…it’s all well deserved. Southern Freestyle coached sessions run Sunday mornings from 09:00 until 11:00 and he’s guaranteed to be there! If your not quite ready to hit the jumps, we are running an Open Day on Sunday 25th October where there will be demonstrations from the freestyle guys, which will give you the motivation you need to pick up a board, or a pair of skis

11889455_10204599575284523_3262513913999546737_nAaron Carpenter (aged 19)

Aaron has skied with us for many years, he loves it that much he’s even chosen to become a ski instructor at the centre; he became part of the full time team earlier this year.

He’s heading to Manchester this weekend where he will be competing in the Indoor Slope style British Championships. Fingers crossed for Aaron, we hope to see something shiny returning with him from the North.

In 2014 Aaron came 2nd in the Great British Under 18’s Outdoor Slope style. Also that year he had a once in a lifetime chance to train in France with a well renowned British coach, JT – on a glacier!

 syOUV9QPAM9ol974CP4NpRNZgSsmKfCVDKw9l9DdhnYHarvey Stead (aged 19)

Another staff member with a bright light shinning on him, is Harvey Stead. He has represented Great Britain on numerous occasions for the Under 18’s and Under 20’s team.

Last year he found himself in Estonia just before the Christmas period where he was making the British nation proud. He is set to head abroad again this December to do just exactly that again!

Best of British Ice Hockey Club travel around the UK throughout the year. We are lucky enough to be amongst their list of hosts in England.

They base themselves on one particular philosophy that drives them towards “Constant and Never-ending Improvement”. With this mind set they have a high interest from those who, national and international, play the sport. The spotlight shines on the camp all year round which brings out the true empowerment and wonders in what BOBIHC strive to succeed. Professionalism is a word they know and boy do they too show off what it means.

Check out some of the pictures below of BOBIHC putting their campers to the test!

Last week we put on a themed week for those who attended our Multi Activity Camp. The children learned about all things from creepy-crawlies, how to lead a team and many different ways to be creative.

The feedback from the kids about our unusual week was impressively enthusiastic…watch out, there will be more from where that came from then!

We still haves spaces for next weeks camp, give us a call and we can book you on!

Our supporting sponsors also include: Lucozade, Carlsberg, Ski Bartlett, Bro Clothing and Brethren Apparel Pug Rugs.

Finally we rounded the week off with a new, awesome challenge for our staff! Never has it been done before here at Bracknell but we though we ought to change that. Amongst all the falls and ‘bumps’ no one was injured, thankfully, however a few prides did need some TLC after the organised chaos. Other than that it was an tremendous 2 hours and a great winner all round!
